The American Kennel Club is heading to Mexico City! The FCM Universal Dog Show, a collaboration between the Federación Canófila Mexicana (FCM) and the AKC, has been officially announced for 2026. This is the first time in history that an AKC-sanctioned show will be held in Mexico. Read on to learn more about the FCM and this landmark event.
The FCM Universal Dog Show
The collaborative event, known as the FCM Universal Dog Show, will be held in Mexico City on November 12-15, 2026. It will be held at the Santa Fe Expo Center, and feature four days of everything dogs. There will be both an AKC-Licensed Dog Show, as well as an FCM Special Attraction show. This makes sure to accommodate every recognized breed in the world – not just those that are AKC registered.
A Unique Collaboration
This is the first time in history that the American Kennel Club has partnered with the FCM in this way. It is also the first time that there will be an AKC-sanctioned show held in Mexico. The four day event allows dogs to enter under their foreign registration number. In order to have the results recognized by the American Kennel Club, the dogs must be AKC-registered.
Gina DiNardo, the President and CEO of the AKC, cites this as a “significant milestone” for the organizations. DiNardo and the AKC team worked in tandem with Dr. José Luis Payró and the FCM team to plan this large-scale event that would set the scene for future collaborations with both organizations.

The Federación Canófila Mexicana was established in Mexico in 1940. Since its creation, the total number of purebred dogs registered to the FCM studbook since its creation total 1,374,282.
Mexico is the home to many breeds that you may recognize from AKC shows, including the Xoloitzcuintle,
Chihuahua, and Calupoh. The rich history of the dogs is intertwined with both countries, so to see them on a world stage like this is something that you won’t want to miss.
